Off to Dartmoor, weather permitting

27 May

Decided to make the most of the dry spell and start planning an overnight trip to Dartmoor at the weekend. Will probably try and find a route somewhere on the South Moor this time as neither myself or Zach have ever been on it. Hope the weather stays dry, fingers crossed – I need time away from the screen!

Dartmoor – Two Bridges

19 Aug

Dartmoor - Aug 2009Just got back from another overnight trip to Dartmoor with Zach. I was a little apprehensive about damaging my heel injury any more but needn’t have worried as it held out well. If anything the walking has loosened it up and it’s feeling much better. Still not 100% ready for another run but better.

URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3111148. Had a great first day with fantastic clear views and warm sunny conditions. Complete contrast to day 2 with fog and drizzle, hence the shortened route.

Tried out some new kit: OV Tent and the Alpkit 600 sleeping bag. Both performed admirably, I was especially pleased with the tent and can honestly say it’s worth every penny of the £16.00 I spent on it!! It’s bigger than the Coleman, lighter and takes a mere 5 minutes to erect. Still to trial in really wet conditions but have high hopes that it will keep us pretty dry – especially as I intend to treat it with waterproofing before next month. (Just in case). The sleeping bag was toasty but to be honest the temperature wasn’t that cold and was actually too hot even with my arms out. Let’s see how it get’s on when the temperature plummits in the next few months.

Really enjoyed the last few days, always good to get Zach out as he loves the outdoors as well.
